HISTORY
OF THE
COMPANY
Providing excellent appliances
to the orthodontic industry.

Early years
Lance began his orthodontic journey in 1982 at age 15 as an in-house technician, fabricating a Haas Expander on his first day. In 1985, while Lance served a church mission, his brother Ryan took his place at age 16. Together, they later expanded their expertise through training and work at an orthodontic laboratory in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

1990: Established
Driven by a vision to build a leading orthodontic laboratory, Lance and Ryan moved to Portland, Oregon, where together they founded Excel Orthodontics.
03

Through 2005
Within its first five years, the company grew to a team of 10 technicians and continued to expand, prompting several relocations. In 2003, Excel Orthodontics settled into its current facility following extensive renovations, and in 2005, the company refreshed its brand with an updated logo.
04

2014 and 2015
In 2014, a fire caused significant damage to our laboratory, requiring a major rebuild. During the temporary relocation, the entire team worked from a single sink, yet continued to meet production deadlines. In 2015, the remodel was completed, resulting in a larger, more efficient facility designed to support future growth.
05

2020: Leadership Change
Lance’s son, Tyler, became a partner in the company, helping ensure long-term stability and continuity for Excel Orthodontics. His leadership and commitment to innovation support the company’s continued growth while preserving the family values on which the lab was founded.
06
2022: Expansion
Excel Orthodontics acquired Olympic Orthodontics in Seattle, Washington—founded in 1983 by Barb and Don Oschner. Their long-standing friendship with Lance and Ryan ensured a seamless transition and brought fresh expertise to drive growth and innovation across both locations.

07
2023: Leadership Change
Lance's other son, Steven joined Excel Orthodontics as a partner while Ryan retired, marking a new chapter in the company’s leadership. This transition ensured continuity in vision and operations, as the family continues to work together to carry forward the legacy of excellence and innovation.

08
2026: Rebrand
The three geometric pine trees reflect our Oregon roots and the growth of our family culture—from Lance and Ryan in 1990 to the next generation today. They also represent our team: united, strong, and growing together. The arch above symbolizes perfectly aligned teeth, reflecting the precision and care behind every case. Our forest green color represents health, growth, and renewal, connecting our Northwest heritage with our commitment to excellence.
